FeedWordPress 0.99 beta 2. Testers still wanted.(posted on 16 September 2007)
Update 2007-11-21: FeedWordPress 0.99b2 is now out of date. You can download the latest release — 0.991 at the time of this writing — from the project homepage.
Thanks to everyone who has been trying out the first beta release of FeedWordPress 0.99. In response to my own tests and some feedback from users, I have prepared a second beta release, FeedWordPress 0.99b2, which all are welcome to download and test out.
Again, by beta,
I really mean beta,
not one of those Web 2.0 perpetual beta releases. The point is to put it out there for you all to test out. You should not count on this release being in full working order. There are features due for this release that I haven’t implemented. I will implement them later. Those that I have implemented all seem to be in working order on my end of things, but everyone’s Apache/PHP/MySQL/WordPress/etc. stack is so different that it’s hard to make any promises about how it will work for you, until y’all have had some time to test it.
With that pre-amble out of the way, if you are interested in testing out the beta release, you should feel free to download FeedWordPress 0.99b2, read the installation instructions below, give it a test run, and let me know how it works for you.
If you are installing this beta as an upgrade over FeedWordPress 0.981 or earlier, please be sure to follow the installation instructions below. If you have already installed 0.99b1 and are installing the new beta over that, you can just replace the old files with the new ones.
Installation instructions: You may have noticed that I have reorganized the file structure of the plugin. Because of this, if you have an older release of FeedWordPress installed, and intend to install the beta release over the older release, first you are going to need to go to your old installation and delete two of the old installation’s files (wp-content/update-feeds.php and wp-content/feedwordpress.php). Once this is done, create a new directory in your plugins directory, wp-content/plugins/feedwordpress/, and copy the new release’s plugin files to this directory. If you don’t delete the old files, then they will not get overwritten and there may be a conflict between the old and new versions. If you do not install the new files in their own directory, the menus will probably not work correctly.
Enjoy, and let me know how it works for you!

Working great. Wish you could choose a specific author other than default.. eg. “syndicated”.
Would love be able to systemactically split the post with a “more” feature Avoids those bloggers who are copyright hounds..
the last suggestion… would love to have it read generic Google Reader feed.. rather than have to use feedburner convert the feed etc…
thanks again for your efforts

Working great so far with just a few magpie errors being display (on the ‘frontside’ of the site too) when there’s an error with one of the feeds… more debug stuff?

when trying to update the post with dynamic xml url it doesn’t work. the return value is always NULL

Thank you for the kind words. The ability to change the default author is an excellent suggestion and I’ll mark it down as something to add, probably for the next release.
The idea for splitting sounds like something that would best be done through a filter. Once I am done with the current round of releases I intend to write some more documentation about filters and advertise my own services in writing them. If you’re interested, get in touch with me privately.
As for Google Reader feeds, I seem to recall hearing some reports about them but I haven’t yet investigated in depth. Could you give me an example URI of a feed that is causing trouble so that I can use it in testing?
Vincent:
The Magpie error messages are deliberately turned on in the beta release to aid in testing and debugging. They will be turned off in the final release.
If you want to use the beta release on a public website, you can turn off the Magpie error messages (and some other hypersensitive error reporting) by opening feedwordpress.php in a text editor and changing the line near the top of the file which currently reads:
… so that it instead reads:
Hope this helps.

I’m not sure what you mean by The problem you are having may be a bug in FeedWordPress, or it may be a problem with the feed it is trying to parse. Could you give me the URI of a feed that causes the problem you’re having, so that I can use it as an example in my development and testing?

Thank! Been looking good so far, no problems that I know of. I’m currently syndicating about 12 feeds.

Thanks for this! I bought Polled.info when I stayed up too late one night and this is going to be a great tool to pull in polls from all over the place. Running the b2 without any problems in FireFox. IE will not allow any dashboard changes to save, it goes to an “Are you sure you want to do this?” screen and the yes option just takes you to admin.php and doesn’t save anything.

I use your plugin
what would you like testing?
David replied:
Also, if you have the permalinks point to the content creator’s site AND have allow comments, the comment link is pointing to the content creator instead of local. I’ll play with this some more as it may be the way the theme works.

Rad Geek,
Your script is awesome, and just what I’ve been looking for for ages.
However, I can’t use it because I’ve recently upgraded to WP2.3 and admin-db.php has been removed in WP 2.3.
Any idea of timing to make FeedWordpress WP2.3 compatible?
Many thanks Michael
Michael replied:
Freaking brilliant!
I’ve just found the WP2.3 compatible version - you rock man!
Thank you so much for this fabulous plugin!
